Swallowing

Dysphagia is the medical term used to describe a difficulty in swallowing. This includes difficulty in beginning to swallow as well as the sensation of food or liquid being stuck in the throat or chest. Speech therapy is used to increase strength and ability to swallow safely. Clients who may need this therapy include but are not limited to those who have suffered from strokes, traumatic brain injury, Parkinson’s Disease, ALS, or born prematurely with underdeveloped muscles.
